Mbayiyane Ridge

Inyoni Umlilo

The place of the fire bird. Elevated timber architecture suspended over the native valley canopy in morning mist.

Vernacular Canopy

Suspended over valley flora

Built upon heavy cantilevered ironwood beams, Inyoni Umlilo projects outward into the high tree canopy. Weathered stone masonry anchors the structure into the ridge slope, creating an unhurried atmosphere between earth and sky.

Raw timber shutters open directly toward Mbayiyane, the mountain of the EmaMbayi, allowing cool valley drafts and morning mist to move freely through the living space.
